Since 1964, Thomas Armstrong (Timber) Ltd have been to be a leading timber roof truss manufacturer, servicing sites across the North of England and Scotland. We manufacture and transport roof trusses to private individuals, builders and developers for both residential and commercial construction projects.

All buildings are unique, so our dedicated teams have the in-depth experience and knowledge of the industry so can supply roof trusses ranging from basic mono pitched roofs to complex bespoke full roof packages.

Our timber roof trusses are designed, using the latest MiTek software, to meet all current codes and standards; with detailed layout plans and individual truss drawings included in the design process to ensure we fully meet your requirements at every stage. Along with our exceptional customer service, the quality of our engineered roof products is important to us, and roof trusses being manufactured to the highest quality using timber responsibly sourced under the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) scheme. We are also members of TRADA and the Trussed Rafter Association and have always continued to meet the latest developments within the industry, so all our trusses are manufactured to BS EN 1995-1-1 (Eurocode 5) and EN 14250 and under ISO 9001.

Timber Frame Construction Stages

Below is a step by step to highlight typical key stages in the construction of a Timber Frame Structure

STAGE 1.

Set Out Base Plate

Install a timber plate to the concrete slab to establish the footprint and positioning of the structure.

STAGE 3.

Floor Joists & Decking

Install timber floor joists and lay first floor decking to create the intermediate floor level.

STAGE 5.

Roof Structure

Install the prefabricated timber roof components — typically roof trusses or rafters.

STAGE 2.

Ground Floor Walls

Erect prefabricated timber frame ground floor wall panels to form the base structure.

STAGE 4.

First Floor Walls

Position and secure the first floor wall panels in line with the building plan.

STAGE 6.

Completed Timber Frame

The full timber frame is now erected, forming the structural shell ready for follow-on trades.
